Agartala, March 21 (NationPress) The Tripura government has declared a 3 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for 1,88,000 government employees and pensioners. This announcement was made on the first day of the week-long Budget session of the Tripura Assembly by Chief Minister Manik Saha, marking the DA and DR rise to 33 percent from 30 percent.

The new DA and DR rates will take effect from April 1, as announced by the Chief Minister amidst applause from assembly members.

The declaration of the DA and DR came right after Finance, Planning and Coordination Minister Pranajit Singha Roy presented the 2025-26 budgets in the assembly.

“To implement the new DA and DR, the state government will incur an additional expense of Rs 300 crore,” CM Saha stated in the assembly.

Officials from the Finance Department indicated that over 1,06,000 government employees and 82,000 pensioners would benefit from this decision.

Since assuming office in March 2018, the BJP government has revised pay scales effective from October 1, 2018, based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission. The state government has provided additional DA and DR to its employees and pensioners multiple times since then.

Government employees and pensioners have long requested that their DA and DR match those of central government employees and pensioners.

This session marks the second assembly gathering in Tripura this year.

“This Tripura Assembly session is set to be the longest in 15 years. The government aims for comprehensive discussions on the budget and other critical issues. We hope for active participation from both treasury and opposition members in budget discussions and other significant matters,” the Parliamentary Affairs Minister conveyed to the media.
