Agartala, April 9 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, stated on Wednesday that the BJP government is dedicated to maintaining traditional culture and customs such as Putul Khela (doll game), Jatra (folk theatre), and Natak (drama).

During the inauguration of the 15-day Jatra Utsav at Vivekananda in Dharmanagar, located in northern Tripura, the Chief Minister emphasized that the state's BJP administration has been actively engaged in preserving the rich cultural heritage of Tripura, including Putul Khela, Jatra, and Natak.

“We have had numerous discussions on this subject, reflecting on the old traditions that are gradually fading away. We organized a Kirtan Sanmelan (folk conference), leading us to the decision to hold the Jatra Utsav,” he remarked. Tripura Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen played a key role in organizing this festival.

“Hosting this event here is a wise choice as the rural community still cherishes traditional Jatra,” Saha noted.

He highlighted that following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, the state government is committed to comprehensive development.

“Our focus is on development. PM Modi stands for progress. The state government is dedicated to overall advancement. The 35-year rule of the Left parties has harmed the state's environment, and now they are grappling with NOTA,” Saha stated.

Dharmanagar, a key commercial hub of Tripura adjacent to southern Assam, holds significant importance, with the Chief Minister commenting that Jatra signifies a positive journey.

Expressing gratitude to the Information and Cultural Affairs Department for their efforts in safeguarding the age-old traditions, CM Saha referenced the recent celebration of Basanta Utsav (spring festival).

“With the rise of modern lifestyles and technological advancements, many, especially the youth, are starting to forget traditional cultures like Putul Khela, Jatra, and Natak. This loss is regrettable, and we are determined to preserve these traditions. The previous Left government did not prioritize this aspect,” he remarked.

Saha, who is also a dental surgeon, reminisced about his college days when he participated in a drama that won an award.

While touring the North Tripura district, he inaugurated and laid the groundwork for 45 development projects for the district.
