Agartala, Nov 8 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Saturday that enhancing healthcare services and infrastructure is the state's highest priority. This initiative aims to improve not just the two main hospitals but also all district and sub-divisional facilities.
During the inauguration of the 25th annual conference of the Tripura chapter of the Association of Physicians of India (API), CM Saha emphasized the significant role medical associations can play in advancing healthcare through the sharing of experiences and insights among doctors.
Holding the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, CM Saha expressed optimism that these medical conferences will serve as platforms for meaningful dialogue and lead to definitive actions that enhance societal and healthcare system development.
“Currently, Tripura has three medical colleges offering around 400 MBBS seats and 63 seats at the dental college. Recently, the foundation stone for a major private hospital was laid, which will be developed at an investment of approximately Rs 900 crore, alongside a new medical college,” Saha stated.
As a qualified dental surgeon, the Chief Minister revealed that five successful kidney transplant operations have already taken place within the state.
In addressing the shortage of healthcare professionals, he noted that additional faculty appointments have been made, and new institutions for B.Sc Nursing, ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery), GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery), Pharmacist, and other allied health courses have been set up throughout the state.
“Even with advanced facilities, there have been instances of administrative challenges at the main referral hospital, Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital. To enhance patient services, the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AIIMS, New Delhi,” Saha explained.
He added that around Rs 250 crore has been allocated for the health welfare of the populace under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, with an additional Rs 26 crore under the Chief Minister's Jan Arogya Yojana.
“Currently, there are about 1,100 Health and Wellness Centres in Tripura. Plans to construct a state-of-the-art eye hospital on land adjacent to ILS will commence shortly,” he said.
CM Saha also highlighted that Tripura ranks as the second-best state in the Northeast regarding per capita income and Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).
The event was attended by notable figures including Dr. Soumen Chowdhury, Secretary of the Tripura API, Prof. (Dr.) Jyotirmoy Pal, National President of API, and Prof. (Dr.) Tapan Majumdar, Vice Principal of AGMC.
