Did Tripura Just Export Organic White Sesame to Gujarat?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Agartala, Jan 2 (NationPress) The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister of Tripura, Ratan Lal Nath, recently inaugurated the dispatch of 1,000 kg of organic white sesame to Anand in Gujarat, representing a significant achievement for the state's expanding organic export industry.
Following the flag-off, the Minister revealed that this shipment was sent to Media Minds in Anand, Gujarat, and announced that an additional 5,000 kg of organic white sesame would be dispatched shortly due to high demand.
As stated by Nath, the Loknath Organic Farmer Producer Company (FPC), Dhalai Organic FPC, and Yapri Organic FPC collaborated to source the sesame directly from farmers, ensuring fair pricing and boosting their income.
“The increasing recognition of Tripura's organic products outside its borders is promising. It's gratifying to commence the New Year with such a significant shipment,” the Minister remarked.
He extended his appreciation to the International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA) and Sheel Biotech for their invaluable assistance in making this export possible.
Nath mentioned that five organizations are currently training FPCs on procurement processes, guaranteeing fair returns for farmers, and marketing agricultural products.
“While farmers cultivate high-quality agricultural goods, exporting them to states like Gujarat necessitates institutional assistance. This is why the government has been promoting FPCs and service providers,” the Minister elaborated.
Furthermore, he disclosed that from the beginning of 2023-24 to date, organic products valued at Rs 5.50 crore have been exported from Tripura to other states and countries.
“Next month, three FPCs from Tripura will showcase their offerings at BioFach, the premier global organic food trade fair, in Germany,” Nath added.
In a significant move to boost agricultural output and achieve food grain self-sufficiency, the Tripura Agriculture Department has recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS&LUP), based in Nagpur.
The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister explained that this partnership aims to conduct comprehensive research on arable land across various districts in the state, paving the way for sustainable farming methods and a more robust agricultural future for Tripura.
