Agartala, March 6 (NationPress) The Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister of Tripura, Ratan Lal Nath, announced on Friday that the primary objective of the BJP-led government is to bolster agricultural production and exports, allowing farmers to reap enhanced benefits.
Alongside Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, the Minister inaugurated the shipment of 3 metric tonnes (MT) of Kaalikhasa and Harinarayan (both organic aromatic rice varieties indigenous to Tripura) to Kolkata from Agartala Railway Station.
Nath stated that the state government's central aim is to elevate farmers' income. “Our efforts have been consistent, targeting to double farmers' income while promoting sustainable agricultural practices,” he emphasized.
The Minister highlighted that a private entity is responsible for exporting 3 MT of Kaalikhasa and Harinarayan paddy to Kolkata. This initiative is spearheaded by two Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), namely the Bosong Group from Tulasikhar in Khowai district and the Thansa Farmers Organisation from Gomati district.
“Since our government assumed office, we have established FPCs with the goal of consolidating farmers and ensuring they receive fair prices for their produce,” the Minister conveyed.
He added that a total of 3 MT of organic paddy—comprising 2.5 MT of Kaalikhasa and 0.5 MT of Harinarayan—is being dispatched outside the state. The Minister also mentioned that this paddy is being exported to maintain its aroma for a prolonged duration.
“This paddy is priced at approximately Rs 55 per kg in the market; however, through these FPCs, farmers are able to sell it for Rs 70 per kg. Our primary aim is to ensure maximum profitability for farmers. We must all support them, and the state government is steadfast in its commitment to farmers. Our ultimate goal is to enhance production and exports, thereby providing greater benefits to farmers,” he concluded.
