Thanjavur (Tamil Nadu), March 4 (NationPress) - The leader of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, made a heartfelt call to party supporters during an executive meeting and campaign event at Chengipatti in Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. In his address, he encouraged his followers to grant him a chance to create a transparent and equitable government in the state.
"My bond with the people transcends electoral interests. It is a natural connection. While for some, politics is a seasonal choice, for me and my supporters, it is a profound emotional journey," he stated.
During the meeting, Vijay revealed the second phase of his party’s election commitments, following the initial phase announced in Vellore.
A significant feature of his proposal was a comprehensive relief plan for farmers. Vijay pledged that if TVK comes to power, all crop loans taken by farmers with up to five acres from cooperative agricultural banks would be entirely waived. For those with larger landholdings, the party would consider waiving up to 50% of their loans.
"Our administration will guarantee that farmers in the delta region will never encounter a shortage of fertilizers," Vijay asserted, emphasizing his party’s unwavering support for the agricultural community, even in the face of pressure from the central government.
Moreover, he announced that the government would cover the educational costs for children from landless families and farmers owning up to two acres, provided no family member is employed in government roles.
Addressing agricultural procurement concerns, Vijay assured that his government would protect stored paddy at procurement centers from spoiling and ensure proper storage facilities. Strict measures would be instituted against illegal commissions for loading and unloading paddy.
Regarding the public distribution system, he vowed to establish one ration shop for every 500 ration cards and to appoint assistance in villages to bolster ration shop operations. Other commodities will be distributed in packaged forms.
Vijay also committed to pressuring the central government for legal protections for fishermen and prioritizing essential public services, including education, healthcare, drinking water, roads, and ration distribution.
Special attention will be given to women, children, and youth under a TVK government, he noted.
"Our government will not only generate public sector jobs but will also create opportunities in the private sector," he declared.
Reflecting on his personal connection, Vijay remarked that if he could choose, he would wish to be born into a farming family, acknowledging his lack of farming knowledge but expressing a deep-rooted connection to the farmers of the Cauvery Delta.
The event was conducted under stringent police oversight, allowing only 4,900 participants with QR-coded passes for entry.
Vijay arrived in Tiruchirappalli via a private jet from Chennai and traveled by road to the event, where he was warmly welcomed by TVK members and volunteers.
