Key Takeaways
Tiruppur, April 14 (NationPress) The President of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, unveiled an array of significant welfare initiatives aimed at weavers, farmers, MSMEs, and government employees during a campaign rally on Tuesday in Tiruppur, a vital textile hub located in western Tamil Nadu.
During his address, Vijay extended his greetings to the residents of the Kongu region and revealed that his party plans to publish its comprehensive election manifesto in book format on April 16.
Prior to the release, the TVK leader emphasized select 'priority promises' aimed at resolving persistent issues in the area.
Addressing the challenges faced by the struggling textile industry, Vijay stated that his administration would establish a dedicated e-commerce platform to assist weavers in marketing their products directly to international consumers.
Additionally, he committed to providing an annual financial aid of Rs 30,000 to each household that owns handlooms or powerlooms, addressing the rising costs of raw materials and electricity.
Among other vital commitments, the TVK leader assured free electricity up to 500 units for handloom operations and 1,500 units for powerlooms, as well as a 50% subsidy on yarn and dyes to lower production expenses.
He also announced a life insurance policy worth Rs 10 lakh for all weavers and an increase in their monthly pension to Rs 3,000.
Recognizing the financial burden posed by electricity tariffs on small businesses, Vijay declared that peak-hour electricity charges for MSMEs would be temporarily lifted, together with a complete electricity tax exemption for five years to aid the recovery of the textile sector.
Shifting focus to agriculture, Vijay proposed a comprehensive loan waiver for farmers with less than five acres of land and a 50% waiver for those with larger farms.
Moreover, he suggested raising the procurement price of paddy to Rs 3,500 per quintal and sugarcane to Rs 4,500 per tonne, along with an annual support of Rs 10,000 for each farming household.
Regarding governance, Vijay assured that the reinstatement of the old pension scheme for government employees would be evaluated, and that temporary staff with over five years of service would be regularized.
He further pledged to eradicate corruption in promotions and ensure transparency in police transfers.
Additionally, the TVK leader promised a salary increase for police personnel, the establishment of welfare hospitals, and enhanced facilities for women officers.
In closing, Vijay appealed to voters for their trust, asserting that his pledges were sincere and not deceptive, and called for support to initiate what he termed a 'whistle revolution' in Tamil Nadu's political landscape.
