Mumbai, Jan 15 (NationPress) Author-entrepreneur Twinkle Khanna, spouse of Bollywood icon Akshay Kumar, expressed her thoughts on the Maharashtra local elections, stating that she is participating in the voting process out of both tradition and optimism.

After casting her vote, Twinkle remarked, “This process grants us a sense of control, a small measure of power over the prevailing narrative. I am voting out of both habit and hope. Thank you.”

Voting is currently taking place across Maharashtra for the elections concerning 29 municipal corporations, which includes the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Her husband, Akshay Kumar, also exercised his right to vote early on Thursday morning.

Post-voting, Akshay remarked, “It is essential for everyone to vote.”

“We frequently voice our concerns about issues like water supply, electricity, poor roads, waste management, and other civic challenges. Now it’s our duty to take action. Everyone must step out and vote for the right candidate. If Mumbai aspires to be a hero, it is not merely about slogans or dialogues; just come and vote.”

The polling for 29 municipal corporations commenced at 7:30 a.m. and will conclude at 5:30 p.m. Although elections were initially set for 2,869 seats, including 227 seats in the BMC, polling is now only for 2,801 seats due to 68 candidates being elected unopposed, meaning no voting will occur for these uncontested seats. A total of 3.48 crore voters will determine the fate of 15,931 candidates, including 1,729 candidates in Mumbai alone. The vote counting is slated for January 16.

The elections are taking place in major cities, including Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kalyan-Dombivli, Vasai-Virar, Mira-Bhayandar, Solapur, Kolhapur, Amravati, Akola, Latur, Jalgaon, Dhule, Jalna, Chandrapur, Parbhani, Nanded-Waghala, Panvel, Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Malegaon, Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad, Ichalkaranji, Ahilyanagar, and Ulhasnagar.
