Mumbai, July 5 (NationPress) Playback singer Udit Narayan recently recounted how he was chosen for ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ during a resurfaced video from a Kapil Sharma show that is currently trending online. In this clip, he shared that the esteemed filmmaker Yash Chopra held a special affection for him.
Reflecting on his journey into the film, Udit said, “Mr. Yash Chopra remarked, I have secured Shah Rukh Khan's date. I will not wait for anyone else. Interestingly, he had considered another singer. In the title song, you can spot both Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar. He had initially picked a vocalist for a leading role.”
He elaborated, “I’m unsure what influenced his decision. Nevertheless, he expressed a desire for the voice of Udit Narayan. By that time, I had already become his preferred artist. He had collaborated on all songs with Lata Mangeshkar. He mentioned that the song would be filmed with the vocals of another artist. Unbelievably, I returned to Mumbai about 15 or 20 days later. Straight from the airport, I headed to the studio and recorded the first track, ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’.”
Earlier this March, Udit Narayan stirred up some controversy when an undated video surfaced showing him kissing a female fan on the lips while taking a selfie during a performance. In this clip, he was performing the beloved song ‘Tip Tip Barsa Paani’, originally featuring Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon from ‘Mohra’, when a female admirer unexpectedly kissed him on the cheek. Following this, he reciprocated with a kiss on her lips, as the viral videos from the event indicated.
The 69-year-old singer is renowned for his versatility, having lent his voice in various languages including Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Bengali, Sindhi, Odia, Bhojpuri, Nepali, Malayalam, Assamese, Bagheli, and Maithili. His contributions to music have earned him four National Film Awards.
