Manchester, April 4 (NationPress) Head coach Ruben Amorim has stated that Manchester United is "in a rush" to reclaim their status at the pinnacle of English football.
Currently sitting 13th in the league, heading into Sunday’s Manchester derby, Ruben acknowledged that the club and team are navigating a phase of short-term transformations aimed at achieving long-term advancement.
“I understand this will require time, but I refuse to adopt that mindset or claim it will take many years. I cannot oversee that. For me, it’s about preparing for a significant change next year. Our target is next year.
“I’m not suggesting we’ll clinch the title next season; that would be unrealistic. What I mean is I don’t want the narrative that we need years of patience and should stay calm. No.
“We are in a rush. We are enduring challenges now so that next year can be significantly better. That is our objective. Sometimes unexpected outcomes can arise. I don’t want to be the one insisting we need years; I will not be that coach,” Amorim expressed during a press conference.
Amorim is also optimistic about Alejandro Garnacho’s development at Manchester United. The 20-year-old forward notably scored in one of the club's most unforgettable derby wins, last year’s Emirates FA Cup final at Wembley. He also found the net in the Community Shield match last August, prior to a penalty shootout loss.
Garnacho has been a reliable figure for United under Amorim, adapting to various roles as he aligns with the new manager’s style and demands. Ruben acknowledged that the Argentina international needs to enhance his goal tally this season, but he believes Garnacho possesses the right mindset and work ethic.
“I believe he’s on the right path. We need to elevate our performance as a team to support Garnacho, but he is improving in his defensive duties and overall effort. He must increase his goals and assists, which is evident, but the same applies to the other players,” he added.
