Lucknow, April 7 (NationPress) In a notable advancement aimed at bolstering the educational sector, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet has, on Tuesday, sanctioned an increase in the honorarium for ‘Shikshamitras’ (para-teachers) and part-time educators.

The revised honorarium, which is set to positively impact millions of educational staff throughout the state, will be enacted from this month, effective April 1.

As per an official announcement, the honorarium for Shikshamitras has been elevated from Rs 10,000 to Rs 18,000, while that for part-time instructors has risen from Rs 9,000 to Rs 17,000.

The new honorarium rates will take effect starting in April, with changes reflected in the payments issued in May.

Approximately 1.43 lakh Shikshamitras are expected to benefit from this adjustment.

In detailing the cabinet's decision, Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh noted that there are currently 1,42,929 Shikshamitras working across the state. Out of these, 1,29,332 Shikshamitras previously received their honorarium from the Central government under the 'Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan' (Comprehensive Education Campaign) on a 60:40 ratio.

Under this initiative, the state government is set to incur an additional cost of Rs 1,138.12 crore due to the increased honorarium.

Moreover, concerning the remaining 13,597 Shiksha Mitras, whose salaries are funded entirely by the state, the administration will also take on an extra financial burden of Rs 119.65 crore.

Significant relief has also been provided to part-time instructors, whose monthly honorarium has surged from Rs 9,000 in 2017 to Rs 17,000. Currently, 24,717 part-time instructors are employed across 13,769 upper primary schools in the state.

The Basic Education Minister clarified that the updated honorarium will commence from April 1, and the increase will be visible in the payments made in May.

This decision is projected to impose an additional financial burden exceeding Rs 1,475.27 crore on the state government, following the commitment made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the inaugural session of the 2026 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
