Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), March 14 (NationPress) - On Saturday, Keshav Prasad Maurya, the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, sharply criticized the Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Rahul Gandhi, and Samajwadi Party President, Akhilesh Yadav, for their remarks concerning the LPG cylinder situation. He urged them to send responsible and measured messages.
During a press conference in Prayagraj, Maurya remarked, "As of yesterday, I’ve taken to referring to Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi as 'Afwaah Yadav' and 'Afwaah Gandhi'."
He accused them of spreading misinformation and misleading the populace.
He elaborated, "In times of global crisis, a responsible politician must communicate clearly, demonstrating that we face challenges together. However, this situation does not even qualify as a crisis."
Maurya noted that previously, there were bookings for 50-55 lakh gas cylinders daily, but now, due to misleading information, bookings have surged past 55 lakh, causing unnecessary panic.
The Deputy CM condemned the sharing of false information as a form of propaganda and dirty politics, urging both leaders to cease such practices.
His remarks came after LoP Gandhi's address in the Lok Sabha, where he highlighted the impact of LPG shortages on the hotel industry amidst the West Asia crisis, suggesting that this was merely the "beginning of pain" that would worsen in the future.
Gandhi stated, "The pain has just started. Restaurants are closing, and there is widespread concern about LPG. Street vendors are being affected, and as I mentioned, this is only the beginning."
Additionally, on Friday, Akhilesh Yadav commented on the LPG issue, stating, "LPG is 'Lapata Gas'. People are facing challenges in weddings and various kitchens due to a lack of cylinders. Many are resorting to gathering cow dung, wood, and other alternatives."
Yadav expressed his dissatisfaction with the government's performance, especially when it claims to be a 'double engine ki sarkar'. He noted that during the Covid pandemic and demonetization, people faced long queues, and now they are again waiting for LPG cylinders.
He accused the BJP-led government of attempting to profit during times of crisis, saying, "The government itself is perpetuating rumors. Citizens are unable to book cylinders online. Instead of ensuring the availability of LPG and providing reassurance, the government has extended the minimum waiting period for booking a domestic LPG cylinder."
