UP labourer strangled at Ahmedabad brick kiln; co-worker arrested
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
A 40-year-old labourer from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly strangled to death by a co-worker at a brick kiln in Dholka taluka, Ahmedabad district, Gujarat, following a dispute over a demand for 'unnatural sex', police said on Wednesday, 4 November 2026. The accused was arrested the following day after confessing to the crime during questioning.
The Incident
The deceased, identified as Pawan Kumar, alias Commander, hailed from Kasganj district of Uttar Pradesh and had travelled to Gujarat along with a group of labourers to work at the brick kiln. The killing reportedly took place between 9 pm and 10 pm on 1 November near a canal on the outskirts of Mandanpura village in Dholka taluka.
According to police, Pawan Kumar and the accused, Bholeram Chauhan, left the kiln together during dinner, telling others they were stepping out briefly. When neither returned for a prolonged period, their supervisor went looking for them.
How the Crime Came to Light
The supervisor encountered Bholeram walking back from the direction of the canal. During questioning, the accused allegedly stated that Pawan Kumar had demanded 'unnatural sex', leading to a heated argument and physical altercation between the two. Bholeram allegedly used the belt of his trousers to strangle Pawan Kumar.
The supervisor then led the accused back to the canal, where Pawan Kumar's body was discovered near the boundary of an agricultural field. The brick kiln owner was subsequently informed and alerted the police.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The deceased's elder brother lodged a formal complaint at Dholka Rural Police Station on 2 November, following which a murder case was registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The accused, Bholeram Chauhan, a native of Shahjahanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by Dholka Rural police at 5:30 pm on 3 November after confessing to the crime during interrogation.
'During questioning on November 3, Bholeram confessed to the crime. He was arrested at 5:30 pm, and police initiated the process to seek his remand,' an official said.
Post-Mortem and Further Investigation
The body of Pawan Kumar was sent to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police have confirmed that further investigation into the matter is ongoing. Both the deceased and the accused had arrived at the brick kiln on the afternoon of 1 November along with other labourers, and had spent the afternoon constructing a room for their accommodation before the incident occurred later that night.
