Did a Man in UP Really Murder His Wife and Daughters?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Shamli (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 17 (NationPress) A man allegedly murdered his wife and two daughters, subsequently burying their remains in a pit measuring seven feet deep within his home, according to officials on Wednesday.
The suspect, named Farooq, hails from Garhi village in the vicinity of Kandhla Police Station and is presently in police custody.
The victims have been identified as 32-year-old Tahira, along with her daughters Afreen (14) and Sehreem (7). Officials confirmed that Farooq and Tahira had three additional children.
Authorities report that this dreadful act stemmed from a dispute, where Farooq's wife had visited her parental home without wearing a burqa. The couple had been experiencing a tumultuous relationship, often leading to arguments.
Farooq, along with his parents Dawood and Asgari, had been estranged for some time and resided in different households. Tahira, Afreen, and Sehreem had not been seen for six days.
When Dawood inquired about the whereabouts of his daughter and grandchildren, Farooq claimed they were staying in a rented accommodation in Shamli. Unsatisfied with this explanation, Dawood reported the situation to the police on Tuesday evening.
During questioning, Farooq confessed to the heinous act, explaining that his rage was ignited when his wife did not don a burqa while visiting her family. He also admitted to killing his daughters since they witnessed the crime.
Superintendent of Police (SP) N.P. Singh stated, "Our team responded promptly upon receiving the report of a missing woman and her daughters. We interrogated Farooq rigorously, and he confessed to the act. He revealed his financial struggles as a contributing factor and mentioned that a disagreement over money preceded his wife’s visit to her parents without a burqa."
Singh elaborated, "Farooq felt that his wife’s actions led to a loss of respect within the community. After Tahira returned, he perceived her disinterest in him, which intensified his rage and led him to murder her."
According to the SP, on the night of December 9-10, Farooq awakened his wife to ask for a cup of tea while their children were asleep. He had previously acquired a gun and fatally shot his wife. Reports indicate that he shot his wife and older daughter while strangling the younger one.
Afterward, he buried the bodies of his wife and daughters in a seven-foot-deep pit he had excavated in their courtyard, covering it with bricks.
Authorities excavated the site, recovered the remains, and sent them for autopsy.
