Bahraich, Oct 1 (NationPress) In a deeply disturbing event that has sent shockwaves through the Bahraich district, a man is accused of taking the lives of two children before setting his residence ablaze, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, including himself and family members, according to police reports on Wednesday.
The tragic occurrence took place on Wednesday morning in the village of Tepraha, falling under the jurisdiction of the Mihinpurwa police station.
As per local accounts, the suspect, recognized as Vijay, initially murdered two young children and then confined himself, his wife, and two additional children within the house before igniting the flames.
The fire rapidly consumed the structure, leaving it in ruins. Villagers, along with the fire brigade, hurried to the scene, but by then, the inferno had already claimed multiple lives.
A police team that arrived following reports stated that three bodies have been recovered and sent for autopsy, while searches for additional bodies in the rubble are ongoing.
Former village head Salim, one of the first witnesses, shared, "The incident transpired around 10 A.M. Upon our arrival, we observed the house ablaze and attempted to extinguish the flames before alerting the authorities. When the door was forced open, the charred remains of two children were discovered."
Another resident, Ramchandra Yadav, mentioned that Vijay had been employed as a farm laborer and seemed troubled in recent days. “He first took the lives of two children before setting the house on fire. Everyone inside was trapped,” he stated.
Another villager noted that Vijay had summoned Suraj (14) and Sunny (13) to his home, requesting them to sow garlic seeds, but both boys declined, citing the Mahanavami festival.
In a fit of rage, Vijay killed both Suraj and Sunny before setting the house ablaze, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, they revealed.
Senior police officials have also visited the site and are investigating the motives behind this horrific crime.
Authorities confirmed that four cattle perished in the fire as well.
This tragedy has enveloped the entire village in sorrow, as residents grapple to understand the brutal unfolding of events.
