Patna, March 26 (NationPress) The Bihar Assembly experienced unruly scenes on Wednesday as opposition members caused a significant commotion over the controversial Waqf Amendment Bill.

The situation escalated when some members began lifting chairs in the Well of the House, leading to strong objections from Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav.

The disturbance started as the Question Hour began on the 17th day of the Budget Session, with opposition members protesting collectively.

During the session, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary was addressing the Assembly when a few opposition MLAs lifted chairs, causing alarm.

Marshals surrounded Vijay Chaudhary to ensure his safety as the protesting members were forcibly made to lower the chairs.

Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav warned, “Those attempting to harm the staff by encroaching the Well will be noted, and action will follow.”

Despite multiple pleas from the Speaker, the uproar persisted, and he expressed his disappointment with some opposition members’ behavior.

“Only two days of proceedings remain, yet the House is being disrupted like this. If this continues, strict measures will be enforced against those involved,” he stated.

Even after numerous requests, the chaos and slogans showed no signs of diminishing. Some members approached the Speaker's chair, escalating the disorder.

The protest extended beyond the Assembly premises, with opposition members outside waving posters and chanting slogans against the Nitish Kumar government and the NDA government at the Centre, accusing them of being anti-Muslim.

The Waqf Amendment Bill has become a key contentious issue, with opposition parties uniting against what they deem an unconstitutional action.

The tumultuous scenes both inside and outside the Assembly highlight the rising tensions between the government and the opposition as the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections approach.

With merely two days left in the budget session, it remains uncertain whether the opposition will allow the House to operate smoothly or persist in their protest.
