Why Are Opposition Protests Escalating Outside the Bihar Assembly?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Feb 5 (NationPress) The third day of the Bihar Legislative Assembly’s budget session saw an escalation of political unrest as opposition MLAs protested outside the primary entrance of the Assembly, directing their ire at the Nitish Kumar government for its purported shortcomings in law and order, women’s safety, and the NEET aspirant's death case.
Under the leadership of RJD MLA Bhai Virendra, opposition members assembled before the start of proceedings, brandishing banners and placards while chanting slogans against the Chief Minister. Nevertheless, the Assembly convened as planned.
The demonstrators accused the state administration of permitting a decline in law and order, featuring posters that sharply criticized the Chief Minister and raising slogans like “Goonda raj will not be tolerated.”
RJD MLA Alok Mehta claimed that criminal activities, especially those targeting women, were escalating throughout Bihar. “Rape incidents are occurring repeatedly in the state. The Nitish government has utterly failed to address the NEET student death case. Law and order has disintegrated, and no substantial measures have been implemented,” he stated.
Mehta further asserted that parental and student fears have intensified, claiming that girls no longer feel secure and that hostels in Patna are being deserted due to safety worries.
RJD MLA Karishma Rai also criticized the government regarding the recently unveiled budget, questioning its purpose and effectiveness. “The budget was concluded in just ten minutes, yet it offers nothing for the common populace. The government must explicitly clarify the events surrounding the NEET student case,” she remarked.
AIMIM MLA Akhtarul Iman echoed the same sentiments, charging the government with losing its grip on governance. “Bihar has become a playground for goons. Women and daughters are unsafe. What happened to the slogan ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’?” he inquired.
As the opposition persistently raises concerns about law and order, women’s safety, and the NEET aspirant’s death, the budget session is anticipated to remain contentious in the coming days.
