Sanaa, April 14 (NationPress) The death toll from the latest US airstrikes on the western outskirts of Yemen's capital, Sanaa, has increased to six, with 13 others injured, as reported by Houthi-controlled health authorities in an updated announcement.
The airstrikes targeted a ceramic factory in the Bani Matar district, according to residents and the health authorities. The sound of fighter jets was heard throughout Sanaa before and after the strikes, as indicated by the Xinhua news agency.
In a separate incident, US warplanes executed two additional strikes in the northern provinces of Marib and Al-Jawf, as per Houthi-run al-Masirah TV. This brings the total count of US airstrikes in northern Yemen on that day to 25.
Earlier, the Houthi group claimed responsibility for three airstrikes targeting Israeli locations, including the Sdot Micha military base and the Ben Gurion airport in central Israel, along with an unspecified vital target in the Ashkelon area of southern Israel.
Earlier in the day, Israel's military stated that a missile launched from Yemen was likely intercepted by its air defense systems before it could enter Israeli airspace.
Tensions have been rising between the Houthi group and the United States, as well as its ally Israel, in recent weeks, especially since the US military resumed airstrikes on March 15 targeting Houthi positions to deter attacks on Israeli and US interests in the region.
Despite these US strikes, the militia remains undeterred. Recently, the Houthi group issued a warning against any potential US-led ground operations in Yemen, threatening to retaliate with “hell.”
These threats arise amid reports in local Yemeni media suggesting that the United States might be preparing to assist Yemeni government forces in a ground offensive to reclaim Sanaa and other northern territories currently held by the Houthis.
The Houthis, who govern large portions of northern Yemen, have been conducting attacks on Israeli targets since November 2023 as a show of solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The Yemen-based militia has stated that it will cease operations if Israel ends the ongoing war in Gaza and permits essential food and medicine into the area.
