US Achieves Milestone with First Precision Strike Missile Deployment in Combat
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Washington, March 13 (NationPress) — The United States has successfully deployed its latest Precision Strike Missile in combat for the inaugural time, targeting Iranian military positions. This significant achievement underscores the evolution of advanced artillery systems utilized by the U.S. military, according to a senior military official.
During a media briefing, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine disclosed this information while discussing the ongoing military operations. He stated, “In just the initial 13 days of this operation, our artillery units have made history.” He emphasized that they have executed the first-ever launch of precision strike missiles in a combat setting, effectively penetrating deep into adversarial territory.
The missile was deployed by U.S. Army artillery units engaged in operations against Iranian military assets. Gen. Caine noted that U.S. soldiers and Marines are utilizing advanced rocket and missile systems that can accurately hit targets far beyond conventional battlefields.
“Our remarkable artillery forces, comprising dedicated American soldiers and Marines, have been actively sinking ships, demolishing supply depots, and launching Army tactical missile systems, precision strike missiles, and HIMARS from outside Iranian borders,” he remarked.
He further revealed that forces have employed Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) to successfully neutralize Iranian naval capabilities. “They have utilized ATACMS to sink multiple vessels, including a submarine,” Caine added.
These operations were conducted by young American soldiers and Marines stationed in the region, many of whom are relatively new to military service. Caine mentioned a recent conversation with members of the 3rd Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, including a crew responsible for firing the first Precision Strike Missile.
“One soldier had been in the Army for merely six months and had only been part of the unit for two months before deployment,” he noted. The youngest individual was just 20 years old, while others were aged 22 and 28.
Despite their youth, Gen. Caine praised their professionalism and composure during missions. “They spoke with a sense of calm, pride, purpose, and clarity,” he stated.
During combat operations, artillery teams operate from armored rocket vehicles, awaiting firing commands. “Once the fire mission is received, they secure the armored doors and begin programming the systems,” he explained. “They then activate three simple toggle switches, igniting the rocket motor and sending the round in the direction of the target.”
The combat deployment of the Precision Strike Missile signifies a pivotal advancement in the U.S. Army’s long-range strike capabilities, designed to replace the ATACMS system while enhancing the range and accuracy of American artillery forces.
