In his initial reaction to the resignation of his close associate, Jagan Mohan Reddy noted on Thursday that character is crucial in politics and that one must not yield to pressure or temptations.
"Throughout my personal life, I have never given in to any temptation as I am a person of strong values, integrity, and character," Vijayasai Reddy shared in a social media post.
He also responded to Jagan Mohan Reddy's assertion that individuals should not fear challenges. Vijayasai Reddy remarked that fear is not part of his nature, which is why he relinquished his Rajya Sabha seat, party roles, and left politics.
The chartered accountant-turned-politician previously served as the YSRCP general secretary.
In a surprising turn of events, he declared his retirement from politics on January 24. The following day, he tendered his resignation from the Rajya Sabha membership. The former financial advisor to the YSR family emphasized that his decision was purely personal.
"My resignation is not aimed at gaining any position, benefit, or financial advantage. This choice is wholly personal. There has been no coercion, pressure, or undue influence on my part. I will always be grateful to the YS family for their support over four decades and three generations," Vijayasai Reddy expressed.
Jagan Mohan Reddy was out of the country when Vijayasai Reddy announced his resignation. After Jagan's return last week, Vijayasai Reddy resigned from the primary membership of the party.
During a press conference on Thursday, Jagan Mohan Reddy addressed a question regarding his close aide's resignation.
The former chief minister emphasized that character is vital in politics and warned against succumbing to pressure or temptations.
"Challenges do not endure forever. The maximum duration of hardship would be five years. If you can persevere, your moment will arrive, and patience is essential. One must possess the character and credibility to stand firm... be it Sai Reddy or the three others who have departed," he stated.
Three Rajya Sabha members of YSRCP stepped down following the party's loss in the Assembly elections last year.
