Chennai, Oct 2 (NationPress) Following the tragic stampede at actor Vijay’s political rally in Karur, which resulted in the loss of 41 lives, the Union government is said to be contemplating an increase in the security measures for the Tamil superstar-turned-politician.

Sources from the party indicate that discussions are in progress to elevate the number of personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and other Central law enforcement agencies assigned to Vijay.

This initiative arises amid escalating political tensions in Tamil Nadu, where political alliances and rivalries are undergoing significant re-evaluation after the Karur incident.

Vijay, the leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has rapidly positioned himself as a transformative figure in a state traditionally influenced by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and its coalition partners.

BJP strategists assert that dismantling the DMK’s established coalition necessitates a robust and inclusive opposition alliance. This rationale is believed to have influenced the decision to reintegrate the AIADMK into the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Home Minister Amit Shah has played a pivotal role in mending ties with AIADMK’s leadership to rejuvenate the NDA’s standing in Tamil Nadu. Nonetheless, recent polling data suggests that the DMK-led coalition still maintains a substantial advantage, indicating that an AIADMK-BJP alliance may not suffice to alter the political equation. Consequently, senior BJP officials have been investigating avenues to entice Vijay into the NDA, viewing TVK’s widespread appeal and its stance against the DMK as potentially pivotal.

However, this outreach has proven to be intricate. Despite his criticisms of the DMK, Vijay has also publicly targeted both AIADMK and BJP, leaving Amit Shah and AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami in a quandary regarding how to advance.

The aftermath of the Karur stampede has now altered the political dynamics. AIADMK and BJP have amplified claims, initially suggested by TVK supporters, that the DMK may have been involved in inciting the disorder. Both parties are demanding that the ongoing investigation, currently overseen by a retired High Court judge, be transferred to the CBI, asserting that an impartial inquiry is crucial for achieving justice.

Analysts contend that this is also part of a broader strategy to unify anti-DMK sentiment while maintaining open lines of communication with Vijay.

In this context, Amit Shah recently reached out to Vijay, officially characterized as an act of sympathy but largely perceived as a political maneuver. BJP insiders suggest that this conversation could lay the groundwork for closer collaboration and possibly alliance discussions as Tamil Nadu’s political landscape continues to evolve.
