Chennai, April 3 (NationPress) The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), spearheaded by the renowned Tamil actor Vijay, has declared a statewide demonstration for Friday, urging the revocation of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

This announcement follows a surge in opposition to the contentious Bill, which was approved in the Lok Sabha during the early hours of Thursday after an extensive 12-hour discussion.

As per party insiders, TVK has organized protests at all district headquarters throughout Tamil Nadu.

Vijay has reportedly directed all district secretaries to collaborate and coordinate the protests effectively to maximize public involvement.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill-2025 has incited significant political controversy.

The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha with 288 votes in favor and 232 against it.

Despite fierce opposition, all proposed amendments were dismissed through voice votes.

While the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) defended the Bill, claiming it aimed at empowering minority communities, opposition factions condemned it as “anti-Muslim” and accused the government of undermining secular principles.

Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju asserted that minorities in India are well-protected.

“There is no place in the world safer than India for minorities. They are protected because the majority in India is completely secular,” Union Minister Rijiju stated during the debate.

The controversy is escalating, with numerous state governments and political groups signaling intentions to legally and democratically challenge the legislation.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin had previously announced that the DMK would approach the Supreme Court to contest the Bill.

Although still relatively new in the political arena, Vijay’s TVK has been gaining momentum.

The party was officially established on February 2, 2024, with a mission to “combat corruption and oppose divisive politics”.

Despite opting not to run in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Vijay has confirmed that TVK will participate in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Previously, Vijay has also made it clear that TVK will only ally with parties that acknowledge his leadership, indicating his ambition to run for the Chief Minister position in the 2026 Assembly elections.

With protests scheduled across the state and impending legal challenges, the political discourse surrounding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is anticipated to escalate in the upcoming days.
