Is a Man Accused of Misusing His First Wife's Voter Card for His Bangladeshi Partner?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Dec 10 (NationPress) A resident of Nadia district in the Hanskhali area of West Bengal has found himself embroiled in controversy, accused of attempting to register his Bangladeshi spouse by misappropriating the voter card of his estranged first wife. This revelation surfaced on Wednesday after his former partner filed a formal complaint.
The complaint was lodged at the Hanskhali Police Station and brought to the attention of the Sub-divisional Officer (SDO) of Ranaghat, Bharat Singh.
Sources indicate that Ashok Roy's first wife, Usha Roy, from the Shyamnagar Mathpara locality in Nadia, fled their home due to persistent abuse. Although they have not yet finalized their legal separation, Ashok remarried in the interim, reportedly to a woman who is of Bangladeshi origin.
Allegations suggest that Ashok illicitly took possession of his first wife's EPIC (voter) card to register his second wife's name under Usha's identity.
After learning about her husband's actions through neighbors, Usha discovered that he had indeed married another woman from Bangladesh.
In a statement to reporters, Usha expressed her dismay, stating, "When I went to collect the enumeration form for the SIR exercise, I was informed that my husband had already completed and submitted it on my behalf without my consent."
Upon confronting Ashok about this, she was reportedly dismissed.
"My EPIC number, name, age, and address have been manipulated to grant a Bangladeshi woman a voter card. My husband merely replaced the image with that of his new wife. Today, I have filed an official complaint against him at the Hanskhali Police Station and the SDO of Ranaghat," Usha revealed.
The new wife is identified as Beauty Roy, and both individuals have reportedly been absent from their residence following the accusations.
Ashok's brother, Nabakumar Roy, acknowledged, "Ashok has indeed committed a wrongful act by using the identity of his first wife to obtain an EPIC for his second wife."
Meanwhile, local Booth Level Officer (BLO) Biswajit Bar confirmed that they are investigating the situation.
"Although both EPIC numbers are identical, the photographs differ. We are actively looking into this issue," stated the BLO.
