New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan is set to embark on a significant two-day journey to Sri Lanka from April 19-20. During this visit, he will engage in discussions with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.
This marks the inaugural bilateral visit by an Indian Vice President to Sri Lanka. In addition to meeting top officials, he will connect with leaders of the Indian diaspora residing in Sri Lanka, as highlighted by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The MEA emphasized, "Sri Lanka is a vital ally in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and our Neighbourhood First Policy. This visit follows a series of recent high-level interactions between our countries and aims to strengthen the age-old bonds that connect our nations."
Recently, Dissanayake expressed his appreciation towards India for its rapid assistance amid the ongoing strife in West Asia, following the delivery of 38,000 metric tonnes of fuel from New Delhi to Colombo.
He acknowledged that India’s prompt action came after he discussed Sri Lanka's fuel supply challenges with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a phone conversation.
In a post on X, he stated, "I spoke with PM Narendra Modi a few days ago regarding the fuel supply disruptions due to the Middle East conflict. I am thankful for India’s swift support; 38,000 MT of fuel arrived in Colombo yesterday. My gratitude also extends to EAM S Jaishankar for his effective coordination."
On March 24, President Dissanayake and PM Modi had a telephonic discussion concerning the evolving situation in West Asia, focusing on how it impacts global energy security. They reviewed ongoing initiatives to bolster energy collaboration and enhance regional stability.
Dissanayake shared, "I spoke with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and discussed the situation in West Asia, particularly regarding global energy security disruptions. We assessed progress on key strategies to strengthen India-Sri Lanka energy cooperation and improve regional security. As trusted partners, we reaffirmed our commitment to collaborate closely in addressing mutual challenges," in a post on X.
The day prior, on March 23, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar also conversed with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath to deliberate on the implications of the West Asia conflict.
In a post on X, he remarked, "A productive discussion with FM Vijitha Herath of Sri Lanka. We examined the repercussions of the West Asia conflict. India remains dedicated to our Neighbourhood First and Vision MAHASAGAR initiatives."
