New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) After the Lok Sabha approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, it is set to be presented by the government in the Rajya Sabha later today.

The Lok Sabha engaged in a thorough debate for over 12 hours on this bill, starting from Wednesday noon and extending into the early hours of Thursday. The Waqf Bill received support from 288 members, while 232 voted against it.

In addition to the passage of the Waqf bill, the Lower House also adopted a resolution affirming the President’s Rule in Manipur.

According to the agenda for Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to introduce a Statutory Resolution in the Rajya Sabha to confirm the President’s Rule in Manipur.

HM Shah will propose the following Resolution - that this House endorses the Proclamation issued by the President on February 13, 2025, under Article 356(1) of the Constitution concerning the State of Manipur.

Earlier, the Lok Sabha passed the Statutory Resolution affirming the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur. Although there was cross-party support for this decision, some opposition members criticized the government for the situation in Manipur. HM Shah stated that the government has implemented all necessary measures to restore normalcy in the troubled Northeastern state.

Minister Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani will present a statement regarding the withdrawal of funds from the Contingency Fund of India for servicing Interest on Sovereign Guarantee Bonds (SGBs) raised by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).

In the Lok Sabha, Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will introduce the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024 for consideration and approval. The motion was initiated by Sonowal on April 1, stating that “the Bill aims to consolidate and revise the laws governing coastal shipping, promote coasting trade, and encourage domestic participation, ensuring that India has a coastal fleet owned and operated by its citizens for national security and commercial needs.”

Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu will present The Protection of Interests In Aircraft Objects Bill, 2025 for consideration and approval. This Bill aims to “safeguard interests in aircraft objects and to implement the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment and the Protocol related to Aircraft Equipment, both signed in Cape Town on November 16, 2001.”

Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will deliver a statement in the Lower House regarding “the implementation status of the recommendations outlined in the 10th Report of the Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs concerning the PM Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) linked to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.”
