Bhopal, May 19 (NationPress) The Madhya Pradesh cabinet is preparing for a special session at the iconic Rajwada Palace in Indore on Tuesday, raising questions about whether Tribal Welfare Minister Vijay Shah will be present. Shah, a prominent leader of the BJP, has been out of sight from both his office and home for over a week following his controversial statement describing Colonel Sofiya Qureshi as a 'sister of terrorists', which sparked public backlash.
His continued absence has led to speculation about his attendance at the high-profile cabinet meeting.
The special session aims to conclude the celebrations for the 300th birth anniversary of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is anticipated to unveil several public welfare initiatives during this meeting.
This marks a significant occasion as it is reportedly the first cabinet meeting at Rajwada Palace since Independence. Before 1947, Yashwantrao Holkar III convened meetings with his ministers in the palace’s Darbar Hall.
Ahilyabai Holkar, who governed the Malwa region from 1767 to 1795, is celebrated for her exceptional administrative skills, humanitarian efforts, and profound spiritual devotion.
On Monday, the Supreme Court granted a stay on Vijay Shah's arrest until May 28, increasing the chances of his attendance at the cabinet meeting. Nevertheless, the opposition Congress party has expressed strong disapproval of Shah potentially participating.
During the court session, Shah's apology was dismissed as a deliberate attempt to evade accountability. The court instructed the Madhya Pradesh DGP to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter further.
The SIT will be led by an officer of Inspector General (IG) rank, including a female officer and two additional members of Superintendent of Police (SP) rank or higher.
The court also condemned Shah’s remarks as “crass” and “thoughtless”, underscoring the importance of accountability for public figures. “As a seasoned politician, you must choose your words carefully,” the bench noted, indicating that Shah's comments bordered on being abusive.
As the state government gears up for this significant meeting, attention will be focused on whether Vijay Shah will appear alongside his cabinet colleagues at Rajwada on Tuesday.
