Lucknow, April 2 (NationPress) The former captain of New Zealand, Kane Williamson, praised Prabhsimran Singh's remarkable performance against the Lucknow Super Giants, stating that his innings effectively set the pace for the chase, establishing a solid base for captain Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera to secure the victory.
Prabhsimran delivered a stunning innings of 69 runs off 34 balls, providing a crucial start. Captain Iyer maintained his excellent form, finishing unbeaten with his second consecutive half-century (52 not out), while Wadhera contributed a significant 43 not out, leading to a comfortable finish as PBKS completed the chase with 22 balls remaining.
“It was an explosive beginning. In the first innings, the pitch did not seem the easiest to bat on, making it challenging to find rhythm. However, Prabhsimran remained undeterred—he entered with determination, took the initiative, and never looked back. His innings of 69 off 34 balls was phenomenal—demonstrating shots all around the field and completely controlling the tempo of the chase. His performance laid the perfect groundwork for Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera to finish the innings,” Williamson commented on JioHotstar.
Earlier, PBKS managed to dominate the game's initial phases, spearheaded by Arshdeep Singh, who achieved figures of 3-31 as LSG was held to 171/7.
On Arshdeep's performance, Williamson remarked that the bowler executed his role excellently from the beginning through to the final over.
“He is an exceptional bowler and has been part of the Indian squad for a considerable time. On that surface, he recognized that patience and targeting the right areas would yield results for seam bowlers. He took crucial wickets, and if this wasn’t seen as a fantastic day for Arshdeep, then achieving three or four wickets for around 20 runs would certainly surpass anyone’s expectations.
“His early wicket was pivotal—removing Mitchell Marsh, who has been providing solid starts for his team, made a significant difference. Controlling the powerplay typically sets the tone for the match, and Arshdeep executed his role perfectly, both at the start and in the final over,” Williamson added.
With their victory on Tuesday night, PBKS extended their unbeaten streak in IPL 2025, bolstering their confidence for future matches.
Williamson further expressed his thoughts on PBKS's winning performance, stating, “There’s a genuine buzz surrounding the team, and numerous players and commentators have been discussing the squad's balance. They undoubtedly have an excellent composition, but more importantly, they are playing exceptionally well, complementing each other effectively.”
“Currently, they may be the team to watch—exceptionally well-led. Shreyas Iyer is in sync with his approach; he remains entirely unaffected by external distractions and focuses solely on his game. He carries a remarkable confidence, which is fantastic to observe, and it seems to inspire the players around him.
“They have already utilized around 14 players in just two matches, deploying various impact players, all of whom have significantly contributed. It’s genuinely impressive to witness how the team is cohesively coming together,” he concluded.
