Chandigarh, June 19 (NationPress) The Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial in Amritsar and the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Fort in Jalandhar are set to be among five historic locations in Punjab and Haryana chosen by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to host International Day of Yoga (IDY) events on Saturday, as stated by an official on Thursday.
The Bathinda Fort, Shamsher Khan’s Tomb in Gurdaspur, and Prithviraj Chauhan’s Fort in Hisar, Haryana, will also facilitate yoga sessions for IDY.
The Chandigarh Circle of ASI will coordinate yoga activities at these five cultural sites — four in Punjab and one in Haryana, all selected as part of the 100 iconic locations identified by the Ministry of Culture for the IDY 2025 celebrations, according to an official announcement.
This year, the 11th IDY will unfold from 6 A.M. to 7.45 A.M. on Saturday. The event will commence with a live broadcast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address, followed by a Common Yoga Protocol session for all attendees.
This celebration resonates with the global theme of advocating yoga as a comprehensive approach to health and wellness.
As per the ASI’s agenda, Amarjeet Mehta, the President of the Punjab Cricket Association, will be the chief guest at Bathinda Fort, while Amansher Singh, a legislator from Batala, will grace Shamsher Khan’s Tomb as chief guest.
Legislator Ajay Gupta will preside as chief guest at the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial in Amritsar, and Paramjeet Singh, PPS, SSP, Punjab Police, will lead the yoga session at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Fort in Phillaur.
The event at Prithviraj Chauhan’s Fort in Hansi, Hisar district, will be led by Legislator Vinod Bhayana and Praveen Allawadi, the Chairman of the Hansi Municipal Committee.
The ASI invites students, government officials, members of voluntary organizations, and the public to engage in the festivities at these historic sites.
On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. Since then, millions worldwide have come together to celebrate this day annually through yoga practice.
This year marks a decade of IDY, with the current celebrations representing a pivotal moment in promoting yoga as a global initiative enhancing physical, mental, and spiritual wellness.
"We are commemorating the 11th IDY in a genuinely global and inclusive fashion," the statement noted.
