Bhopal, March 19 (NationPress) A 21-year-old individual was apprehended in the Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh for purportedly sharing 'inappropriate' material on social media, resulting in heightened tensions in the locality, according to police reports on Wednesday.

The situation escalated on Tuesday night when a group from the minority community, after completing their 'Namaz' (prayer), convened at the Kotwali police station to demonstrate.

The demonstrators expressed that the content posted on Instagram was profoundly objectionable and had offended their religious sentiments. They urged for immediate and stringent measures against the perpetrator.

Superintendent of Police Devendra Patidar and District Magistrate Harsh Singh arrived at the scene, recognizing the seriousness of the issue.

In a prompt response, the police lodged a First Information Report (FIR) around 10 p.m. and took the accused, identified as Devesh Dalal (21), into custody. He has been charged under Section 299 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

To ensure peace and avert any further disturbances, a substantial police presence was established in Burhanpur, where members of the Hindu and Muslim communities coexist closely.

As a precautionary step ahead of 'Rang Panchmi', a festival celebrated by the Hindu community after Holi, police also conducted a flag march in the area.

Burhanpur SP Devendra Patidar informed the media that a significant gathering had formed to protest following the viral social media post.

"The police acted swiftly, calmed the crowd, and dispersed them peacefully. Preventive measures have also been put in place, and we urge the public to avoid sharing or interacting with objectionable content," Patidar stated.

The police have committed to an extensive investigation and called on citizens to uphold communal peace and assist in maintaining law and order within the district.

The situation is currently managed, and an inquiry is ongoing.
