Kyiv, Aug 10 (NationPress) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has decisively dismissed any notion that Ukraine would consider giving up territory to Russia as part of a possible peace arrangement, following remarks by US President Donald Trump suggesting a "territorial swap" to conclude the conflict.

“Ukraine will not surrender land to the occupier,” Zelenskyy stated on Saturday, stressing that Kyiv has no plans to reward Russia for its acts of aggression. “We will not give Russia any awards for what it has done,” he asserted.

Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of achieving a true and lasting peace, stating that the aim is “not a pause in the killings, but a genuine, enduring peace immediately.”

His statements coincided with a meeting of senior Ukrainian and European officials with US Vice President JD Vance in Kent, England, to explore diplomatic solutions to the ongoing conflict, which is now in its fourth year.

The discussions included representatives from significant European countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Finland, and Poland.

Zelenskyy characterized the talks as "constructive" and expressed hope regarding sustained support from the West.

Later, on X, the Ukrainian president mentioned that Ukraine has supported all ceasefire proposals put forth by the Trump administration since February, while asserting, “I have not heard any partners voice doubts about America’s capability to bring the war to an end.”

Zelenskyy also voiced strong objections to a scheduled meeting between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska. “Any decisions made without Ukraine’s involvement are null and void. They will never work,” he emphasized.

Trump acknowledged the meeting in a brief update on his Truth Social platform, confirming it would take place in Alaska next Friday.

The Russian news agency Tass also confirmed the meeting, quoting Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov.

Earlier on Saturday, Trump informed reporters at the White House that the meeting had been postponed due to necessary security preparations. He added that "some swapping of territories to the betterment of both" nations would be discussed, although he did not provide further details on the proposal.

Point of View

It's crucial to recognize that Ukraine's stance on territorial integrity is unwavering. The rejection of any proposals that compromise national sovereignty is a strong message to both domestic and international audiences.
