94% of Indian Office Workers Feel Pressured to Master AI: Study

Bengaluru, Dec 17 (NationPress) In light of the increasing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in professional environments, 94% of desk workers in India perceive a pressing need to acquire skills in this advanced technology, according to findings from a recent report released on Tuesday.

Slack's latest Workforce Index indicates that the adoption of AI is gaining momentum in India, with 61% of desk workers already utilizing AI tools in their daily tasks, and 80% expressing enthusiasm about the potential for AI to automate certain responsibilities.

The progress India is making in AI integration highlights a growing emphasis on this technology among its corporate leaders and reflects an intensified urgency to harness its transformative capabilities.

The report, derived from a survey involving 1,029 desk workers in India, revealed that while 94% of respondents are eager to enhance their AI skills, 40% have invested less than five hours in learning to use the technology. Additionally, around 30% of global workers indicated they have received no formal AI training at all, including any self-initiated learning or experimentation.

“India’s workforce is pioneering AI adoption, with 61% of desk workers already incorporating AI into their job functions. This enthusiasm underscores AI's transformative potential and its alignment with leadership’s focus on innovation and skill development,” stated Rahul Sharma, Vice President - Sales at Salesforce India.

“However, to fully leverage the advantages of AI, there remains some uncertainty that needs to be addressed. By implementing AI agents with clearly defined roles and guidelines, organizations can diminish worker anxiety and facilitate smooth integration into everyday activities,” Sharma added.

Despite Indian workers leading globally in AI adoption, the research highlights some unease regarding AI usage. Approximately 21% of Indian workers feel uncomfortable disclosing their use of AI to managers due to concerns about being perceived as incompetent, lazy, or dishonest.

To maximize the benefits of AI, employers should encourage their teams to embrace the technology and provide the necessary training and support to thrive in this new landscape, according to the report.
