Mumbai, July 8 (NationPress) Adani Electricity has filed 1,166 first information reports (FIRs) against individuals involved in power theft, showing a notable rise from 974 FIRs filed in FY 2023-2024. This proactive stance has led to a significant decrease in losses, as the company reported on Tuesday.

The result was a remarkable 0.77 percent reduction in Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses, decreasing from 5.47 percent in the previous year to 4.70 percent in FY 2024-25.

This accomplishment positions Adani Electricity as one of the Discoms with the lowest AT&C losses in the country, especially notable given its vast network and varied consumer base.

"Power theft unfairly burdens honest consumers who pay their dues. Adani Electricity is steadfast in eradicating this issue. By confronting such illegal activities, we protect our customers' interests. We will amplify our efforts in targeted areas to further minimize AT&C losses this fiscal year,” stated a company representative.

In FY 2024-25, Adani Electricity executed 37,424 mass raids, marking a 41 percent increase from 26,628 raids in FY 2023-24.

This heightened vigilance resulted in a 20 percent increase in the number of FIRs filed, alongside a 44 percent rise in raids conducted during odd hours, including early mornings, late evenings, and holidays.

Moreover, there was a 3 percent increase in the number of power theft cases recorded. During these raids, 60.90 tonnes of illegal wiring were confiscated, with an estimated total theft of 23.76 million units, amounting to Rs. 44.92 crore.

Last year, the vigilance team of Adani Electricity uncovered four major instances of power theft.

In April 2024, a construction firm in Ghatkopar was found illegally drawing power directly from the meter's incoming terminal, leading to a theft case worth Rs 40,50,589. The Discom subsequently filed an FIR at the Pant Nagar Police Station, Ghatkopar.

In January 2025, another significant theft case involved a customer operating an adhesive manufacturing unit in Andheri using an unauthorized electricity connection, amounting to Rs. 51.09 lakh. An FIR was filed against this customer at Kherwadi Police Station, Bandra.

The following month, another customer in the printing and packaging sector in Andheri was discovered tampering with the meter, resulting in a theft case valued at Rs. 32.04 lakh. An FIR was lodged against them at Kherwadi Police Station.

In March, a gym and fitness center, despite having two official connections, was found involved in power theft, leading to a case worth Rs. 38,36,948. An FIR was registered at Govandi Police Station.

Adani Electricity continues to work closely with law enforcement to conduct regular mass raids, detain offenders, and seize equipment utilized for power theft. During FY 2024-25, 60.90 tonnes of unauthorized wires and various tools were confiscated.

"Adani Electricity remains committed to providing reliable and affordable power to all residents of Mumbai," stated a spokesperson from the company.
