Mumbai, Dec 22 (NationPress) The Adani Foundation along with Adani Electricity commemorated National Mathematics Day by hosting a week-long series of interactive and enjoyable learning experiences for students from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools in Mumbai.
In India, National Mathematics Day is observed every year on December 22 to celebrate the birth anniversary of the renowned Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
This celebration, part of the flagship educational initiative Project Utthan, revolved around the theme ‘Math Around Us’, encouraging students to perceive mathematics as an integral part of daily life rather than a daunting classroom subject.
The programme aimed to simplify, practicalize, and make mathematics enjoyable, particularly for primary school students.
“Project Utthan embodies our enduring commitment to the all-around growth of children in the communities we support. Mathematics is essential in modern life, technology, and problem-solving. With the theme ‘Math Around Us’, we sought to help students recognize mathematics as useful, relatable, and fun. Our collaboration with BMC schools guarantees that quality, joyous education is accessible to every child,” stated a representative from Adani Electricity.
In BMC schools, classrooms were transformed into vibrant learning environments where students delved into numbers, shapes, patterns, and logic through interactive activities, games, and group challenges.
The festivities saw enthusiastic involvement from students, teachers, and Utthan Sahayaks, who facilitated the activities on-site.
A variety of thoughtfully curated activities were conducted with specific learning goals. Through puzzles and games like tangram challenges, Sudoku corners, logic riddles, and multiplication pyramids, students enhanced their numerical sense, logical reasoning, and problem-solving abilities.
Practical activities, such as constructing 2D and 3D shapes with straws and origami-based geometry, enabled students to grasp spatial concepts and apply mathematical ideas in a hands-on manner.
Special sessions included a short film showcasing the life of Srinivasa Ramanujan and a mathematics pledge, aimed at fostering respect for the subject and fostering a positive emotional connection with learning mathematics.
“Our focus under Project Utthan is to transform classrooms into environments of curiosity and confidence. Celebrating National Mathematics Day through engaging activities and games is a powerful method to reinforce foundational numeracy. When children enjoy learning, fear dissipates, and confidence flourishes. This is the essence of NEP 2020 in action and a significant stride towards realizing NIPUN Bharat objectives,” the spokesperson added.
