Ahmedabad, Jan 21 (NationPress) Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) announced on Tuesday that it has secured a significant Rs 25,000 crore contract for the Bhadla (Rajasthan)-Fatehpur (Uttar Pradesh) high voltage direct current (HVDC) project, marking its largest contract achievement to date.

This remarkable acquisition boosts AESL's current order book to Rs 54,761 crore and expands its transmission network to 25,778 circuit kilometres (ckm) and 84,186 megavolt-amperes (MVA) of transformation capacity.

“By facilitating the effective transmission of renewable energy from some of the most challenging areas in the country and connecting them to the national grid, AESL plays a vital role in India’s journey towards decarbonisation,” stated Kandarp Patel, CEO of AESL.

“We are committed to utilizing cutting-edge technology and practices to ensure the timely delivery of the project while minimizing environmental impact,” Patel further stated.

AESL, recognized as India’s largest private transmission and distribution entity and a part of the globally diversified Adani Group, won this project through the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process, with REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) coordinating the bidding procedure.

The formal transfer of the project SPV to AESL occurred on January 20, 2025.

Named the “Transmission system for evacuation of power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase-III Part I”, the initiative entails establishing a 6,000 MW HVDC system from Bhadla to Fatehpur, covering 2,400 ckm with a transmission capacity of 7,500 MVA.

According to the company, this project will assist in evacuating 6 GW of renewable energy from various REZs in Rajasthan, extending beyond Bhadla-III to meet the demand in North India and connect to the national grid. AESL aims to complete the project within 4.5 years.

AESL is the sole private sector entity to possess an HVDC asset, which is preferred for long-distance power transmission.

The Bhadla-Fatehpur project marks AESL’s third HVDC project, following the successful Mundra Mahendragarh project and the ongoing Aarey-Kudus Project, managed by its subsidiary AEML.

With a cumulative transmission network of 25,778 ckm and 84,186 MVA transformation capacity, AESL also provides retail electricity distribution services to nearly 13 million customers in metropolitan Mumbai and the industrial area of Mundra SEZ.
