New Delhi, Feb 23 (NationPress) Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming a crucial element in the transformation of rural areas across India, acting as a cohesive public infrastructure and promoting inclusive growth, according to a government report released on Monday.

By integrating strategic planning, governance measures, digital public resources, multilingual interfaces, and cross-sector collaboration in fields such as agriculture, healthcare, education, skill development, and local governance, the government is institutionalizing AI to enhance human capabilities instead of replacing them, the report indicated.

The government emphasized that AI boosts last-mile service delivery and participatory governance. The 'India–AI Impact Summit 2026' marks a transition from pilot projects to comprehensive implementation through initiatives like the IndiaAI Mission and Digital India.

Key tools for participatory governance highlighted by the government include SabhaSaar, which streamlines Gram Sabha documentation in 14 languages, as well as platforms like eGramSwaraj and Gram Manchitra, which enhance administrative systems with GIS-based visualization and planning capabilities.

Innovative solutions driving rural advancement, as noted in the report, include AIKosh, BhuPRAHARI, and the Digital ShramSetu Mission.

AIKosh acts as a national repository for AI datasets and models, providing easily deployable AI models for various sectors. The platform features over 7,500 datasets and 273 AI models across 20 industries, significantly lowering entry barriers for developers creating governance and service delivery applications.

As of February 9, 2026, AIKosh has recorded more than 69.80 lakh visits, with 17,500 registered users and 5,004 model downloads, highlighting the increasing importance of shared data infrastructure in scaling AI for societal benefit.

BhuPRAHARI combines AI with geospatial technologies to monitor assets developed under MGNREGA. By harnessing ground- and satellite-based data along with AI analytics, the platform facilitates real-time asset tracking, according to the report.

BHASHINI is an AI-powered language platform aimed at eliminating language barriers to accessing digital services, currently integrated with over 23 government services.

As of October 2025, BHASHINI boasts over 350 AI language models and has exceeded one million downloads, the government noted.
