The new flight, designated AI138D, is set to depart from Milan at 7:00 p.m. local time and is expected to reach Delhi on the morning of October 20.
“Air India is operating an additional flight from Milan to Delhi today to accommodate the passengers of flight AI138, which was canceled on 17 October due to a technical issue,” the airline stated.
Air India also mentioned that it is providing comprehensive support to the affected passengers, which includes hotel accommodations, meals, and the choice of either a full refund or free rescheduling.
“Air India has provided all necessary assistance to the impacted passengers, including hotel accommodations and meals. Passengers were also presented with full refunds or complimentary rescheduling as per their choice,” it continued.
The issue began on Friday when an Air India Dreamliner (Boeing 787-8) experienced a technical issue at Milan Airport, necessitating prolonged maintenance. Consequently, flight AI138 to Delhi was canceled.
Most of the stranded travelers have now been rebooked on flights scheduled for October 20, coinciding with Diwali.
The airline also addressed social media complaints regarding limited passenger amenities at Milan Airport.
“All affected passengers have been provided hotel accommodations; however, due to limited availability, some rooms were arranged outside the immediate vicinity of the airport,” Air India stated in a declaration.
The airline reaffirmed that passenger safety and comfort is its highest priority, expressing gratitude to travelers for their patience and understanding.
