New Delhi, May 4 (NationPress) Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi declared on Sunday that Angola has formally executed the Framework Agreement of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), an initiative where India is leading global endeavors to foster green energy.
"This signing occurred during the State Visit of Angola's President to India, marking a significant step in international efforts to advance solar energy," stated Union Minister Joshi.
The minister noted that the inclusion of an African nation in the ISA signifies a major advancement in enhancing global collaboration for renewable energy.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in bilateral discussions with Angolan President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco at Hyderabad House, in the national capital. They announced a $200 million defence credit line to Angola and discussed expanding cooperation in sectors like public infrastructure, defence, and space technology.
The two leaders reviewed ways to strengthen collaboration across various domains such as agriculture, traditional medicine, diamond processing, fertilizers, and critical minerals. They also agreed to initiate a Youth Exchange Programme as Yoga and Bollywood enjoy immense popularity in Angola, which hosts a significant Indian diaspora.
President Joao Manuel Lourenco expressed that his inaugural state visit to India is historic and well-timed, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Angola.
This visit comes at a notable time as President Lourenco has been appointed Chair of the African Union. During India's G20 Presidency, the African Union was admitted as a full member.
On behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, PM Modi extended congratulations to Angola on its leadership role in the African Union.
"We take immense pride in the fact that the African Union gained permanent membership of the G20 under India's G20 presidency. India and African nations have united in their voices against colonialism, inspiring one another.
