New Delhi, March 28 (NationPress) The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has recently sanctioned a proposal amounting to ₹37,216.15 crore aimed at supplying subsidized fertilizers to farmers throughout the upcoming Kharif season, which runs from April 1 to September 30.

The financial allocation for the Kharif season will be roughly ₹13,000 crore higher than the previous Rabi season’s fertilizer subsidy for 2024-25, as stated in the official announcement following the Cabinet meeting.

According to the statement, “Subsidies on phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilizers, including NPKS grades, will be provided based on the approved rates for Kharif 2025, ensuring farmers have smooth access to these essential fertilizers at affordable prices.”

The government will supply the subsidy to fertilizer companies as per the notified rates, ensuring that farmers can obtain fertilizers at reasonable prices, the statement elaborated.

A total of 28 grades of P&K fertilizers will be made available to farmers at subsidized rates through manufacturers and importers. The subsidy system for P&K fertilizers is governed by the nutrient-based scheme (NBS) of the Department of Fertilisers, which has been active since April 1, 2010.

The government reiterated its commitment to making P&K fertilizers accessible to farmers at fair prices, particularly in light of recent fluctuations in global fertilizer prices, including Urea, DAP, MOP, and Sulphur.

Furthermore, the official statement indicated that the freight subsidy on Single Super Phosphate (SSP) will also be continued through Kharif 2025 to further support farmers.

“Providing subsidies on P&K fertilizers ensures that farmers receive the necessary nutrients at reasonable prices. Healthy soils result in healthy harvests, thereby securing food for the nation. The approval of subsidy rates for the designated P&K fertilizers reflects the government’s dedication to the agricultural sector and the welfare of Indian farmers,” the statement concluded.
