New Delhi, July 23 (NationPress) The government has provided assistance for a total of 18,84,905 electric vehicles (EVs) under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid and) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) schemes up to June 30 this year, as reported to Parliament.
As part of the FAME-II scheme, the government has supported 16,29,600 vehicles. This scheme allocated Rs 912.50 crore for the establishment of 9,332 EV PCS, out of which 8,885 EVPCS have been successfully installed as of June 30, according to Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries, Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, in a written response in the Lok Sabha.
The FAME schemes are applicable nationwide, including in tier 2 and tier 3 cities. The FAME-I Scheme operated from 2015 to 2019, while the FAME-II scheme is set to run from 2019 to 2024.
Under the FAME-I scheme, the government supported 2,55,305 EVs, with approximately 520 charging stations/infrastructure sanctioned at a cost of Rs 43 crore.
The primary goals of the FAME-II scheme are to foster the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles through market creation, demand aggregation, and other related initiatives; to promote domestic technology for the development of electric vehicles and their component ecosystem; and to support the manufacturing of Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV) and hybrid vehicles within the country.
This initiative also aims to establish a competitive, viable, and self-sustaining xEV industry while contributing to the nation’s goals for a low-emission economy as outlined in COP 21, stated the minister.
The National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020 serves as a guiding document that provides a vision and a roadmap for accelerating the adoption and manufacturing of electric vehicles across the country.
As part of the NEMMP 2020, the Ministry of Heavy Industries launched the FAME India scheme in 2015 to encourage the adoption of electric/hybrid vehicles (xEVs) in India.
