Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 23 (NationPress) The Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), a pivotal entity in India's cybersecurity framework, addressed more than 29.44 lakh cyber incidents in 2025. During this period, it issued 1,530 alerts and published 390 vulnerability notes, according to a government announcement made on Friday.
CERT-In has integrated 231 certified cybersecurity audit organizations, reinforcing its capacity for audits and vulnerability assessments across vital information and communication technology infrastructures, as stated in an official report.
The Cyber Swachhta Kendra (CSK), initiated by CERT-In, reaches approximately 98 percent of India’s digital populace, disseminating widespread notifications concerning botnet and malware infections.
With 1,427 organizations onboard, CSK has seen an impressive 89.55 lakh downloads of its complimentary botnet removal tools, assisting users in detecting and resolving malware issues, as mentioned in the statement.
The center monitors networks of internet-connected devices—including computers, mobile phones, IoT gadgets, and home routers—affected by malware.
Offering free tools and support, CERT-In aids users in cleaning infected devices, collaborating closely with industries, academia, and internet service providers to identify compromised systems and alert users.
The government emphasized CERT-In's capacity-building initiatives, noting its execution of 32 specialized technical training programs, 95 awareness sessions reaching 91,065 participants, and training 20,799 officers and cybersecurity professionals.
CERT-In is tasked with raising awareness, enabling information exchange via its automated cyber threat exchange platform, sharing near-real-time threat intelligence, and conducting regular training and exercises.
In 2025, CERT-In executed 122 cybersecurity drills and exercises, including tabletop exercises for 1,570 organizations spanning both public and private sectors, targeting personnel in defense, paramilitary forces, space, atomic energy, telecommunications, finance, power, oil, and natural gas industries, among others.
Furthermore, CERT-In identified and reported 29 common vulnerabilities and exposures, receiving accolades from prestigious international platforms such as the World Economic Forum, the University of Oxford, and France’s ANSSI for its AI-driven threat detection and real-time threat intelligence sharing, as per the statement.
India's internet connections surged to 100.29 crore in 2025, a significant increase from 25.15 crore in March 2014. The average monthly data consumption per user escalated to 24.01 GB, ranking among the highest globally, up from 61.66 MB in 2014, as stated.
