New Delhi, Oct 22 (NationPress) OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Atlas, an innovative AI-driven web browser crafted to transform the way users engage with the internet.
Entirely centered around ChatGPT, this browser aims to blend artificial intelligence with conventional web browsing, providing a fluid and interactive digital experience.
According to the company, Atlas is currently accessible worldwide for macOS users, with plans to extend its availability to Windows, iOS, and Android soon.
Fundamentally, Atlas integrates ChatGPT directly within the browser, rather than as a mere extension.
The new tab page serves as both a chat interface and a conventional search bar, enabling users to explore websites, receive AI-generated responses, and view standard search results—all in one convenient location.
Users can easily navigate through links, images, videos, and news without exiting the chat interface. A standout feature of ChatGPT Atlas is its optional browser memory.
This capability allows the browser to retain crucial information from previously visited websites, empowering users to inquire further, such as, “Can you summarize the job postings I reviewed last week?” without needing to re-enter links.
OpenAI assures users that they will have complete authority over what the AI retains and can effortlessly delete data or browse in private mode.
By default, browsing data will not be utilized for model training unless users opt-in.
Another significant enhancement is the launch of ‘Agent Mode’, enabling ChatGPT to perform actions directly within the browser.
For instance, it can conduct research, open new tabs, extract information, and even engage with services like Instacart to create shopping carts based on recipes.
Product lead Adam Fry highlighted that this means Atlas can now “make reservations, book flights, or even modify a document you’re working on.”
The browser also features “cursor chat,” allowing users to select any text, such as an email, and request ChatGPT to rewrite or enhance it immediately.
Altman characterized Atlas as a significant progression toward a new internet usage paradigm—where chatting becomes an integral part of web navigation.
“We envision a future where the chat experience in a web browser can serve as a compelling analogy,” he remarked.
