New Delhi, Jan 8 (NationPress) OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT Health, a specialized platform designed to securely link individuals' medical records with wellness applications. The San Francisco-based AI leader developed this innovative tool in collaboration with over 260 medical professionals from 60 nations.
According to OpenAI, “You can securely connect medical records and wellness apps to ground conversations in your own health information, making responses more relevant and beneficial for you. Designed in close collaboration with physicians, ChatGPT Health empowers users to take a more proactive role in understanding and managing their health and wellness—while complementing, not replacing, clinician care.”
This feature comes in response to the growing demand for health-related inquiries on ChatGPT, with over 230 million users worldwide seeking advice on health and wellness topics each week. However, the company emphasizes that this new functionality is intended to “support, not replace, medical care.”
“It is not meant for diagnosis or treatment. Instead, it assists you in navigating everyday questions and recognizing patterns over time—not just during illness—so you can feel more informed and ready for essential medical discussions,” the blog post states.
With ChatGPT Health, users can securely link their medical records and wellness applications, such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal. This new feature aids individuals in interpreting test results, preparing for doctor appointments, receiving advice on dietary and exercise routines, or understanding different insurance options based on healthcare trends.
OpenAI has also indicated that it is implementing various measures to protect sensitive health information beyond the standard ChatGPT security protocols.
Users will be allowed to delete their chats from OpenAI’s systems within 30 days, and it is designed not to retain personal information from user interactions. While conversations and files on ChatGPT are encrypted by default, users may enhance access controls by enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA).
The rollout of ChatGPT Health will initially be limited to a select group of early users to gather feedback and refine the experience. OpenAI has noted that users with ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside of the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK will be eligible.
In the upcoming weeks, the company plans to broaden access and make Health available to all users on the web and iOS. It is important to note that medical record integrations and some applications are available only in the US, and connecting to Apple Health requires an iOS device.
