New Delhi, Feb 6 (NationPress) The Centre has announced a significant expansion of the e-NAM (National Agricultural Market) platform by incorporating 10 additional agricultural commodities to assist farmers in achieving higher prices for their produce.

This initiative is designed to broaden the assortment of agricultural commodities available and provide enhanced opportunities for both farmers and traders to gain from the digital trading platform, as stated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.

The newly added commodities to the e-NAM platform comprise dried tulsi leaves, besan (chickpea flour), wheat flour, chana sattu (roasted chickpea flour), and water chestnut flour within the miscellaneous category.

Additionally, asafoetida and dried fenugreek leaves have been added from the spices category, while water chestnut and baby corn represent the vegetables among the newly included items. Jackfruit is also part of the list of 10 commodities.

This decision responds to the persistent requests from farmers, traders, and other stakeholders for more agricultural goods to be included, according to the statement.

The Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI) has established tradable parameters for these 10 new agricultural commodities. These parameters have been created after extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including state agencies, traders, subject matter experts, and the Small Farmers’ Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC), with the endorsement of the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

DMI is responsible for developing tradable parameters for agricultural commodities that will be traded on the e-NAM platform. These parameters aim to assist farmers in obtaining better prices for their produce by ensuring the quality and marketability of agricultural products. This initiative enhances transparency, promotes fair trading practices, and supports the overall growth of the agricultural sector, as per the statement.

DMI has established tradable parameters for 221 agricultural commodities, which are currently accessible on the e-NAM platform. The addition of these 10 commodities will increase the total to 231 commodities.

Several of these commodities fall into the category of secondary trade, which can benefit Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in marketing value-added products and formalizing trade in the sector.

The newly endorsed tradable parameters will be available on the e-NAM portal (enam.gov.in), further enhancing the platform's ability to facilitate digital trading of agricultural commodities. This initiative will offer farmers improved market access, better pricing, and enhanced quality assurance, thereby supporting their economic well-being. The development of these additional tradable parameters is part of the government's ongoing efforts to modernize the agricultural sector, ensuring increased inclusivity, efficiency, and market transparency, the statement further added.
