New Delhi, July 9 (NationPress) A recent report indicates that the overall direct revenue potential from Earth intelligence for technology product and service providers is projected to approach nearly $20 billion by the year 2030.
The influence of Earth intelligence is expected to be felt across all sectors as it swiftly transitions from governmental applications to private enterprises. Annual revenue is anticipated to exceed $4.2 billion in 2030, a rise from around $3.8 billion in 2025, as reported by Gartner.
Bill Ray, a Distinguished VP Analyst at Gartner, stated, “The future of Earth intelligence will be determined by vendors who act swiftly to develop technologies capable of interpreting the vast amounts of raw data they gather.”
Gartner describes Earth intelligence as the utilization of AI applied to Earth observation data to provide industry-specific solutions.
This includes the collection and dissemination of Earth observation data, transforming it for specific purposes, and ultimately using it to generate actionable insights through domain-specific AI models, tools, and applications.
“The true value of Earth intelligence data is just beginning to be recognized. For instance, vendors are utilizing satellites to identify fallen trees obstructing railroad tracks during storms, monitor the temperatures at metal refineries to gauge global production, count vehicles to discern traffic patterns and consumer behaviors, and track maritime cargo to assess shipping activities,” Ray added.
These groundbreaking insights are offering substantial value, with new use cases emerging daily as the competition among AI vendors escalates alongside the increasing volume of available data.
At present, the raw data fueling Earth intelligence is primarily gathered and analyzed by government entities. However, a notable shift is underway.
Gartner forecasts that by 2030, businesses will spend more on Earth intelligence than both government and military sectors combined, accounting for over 50 percent of total Earth intelligence spending, up from less than 15 percent in 2024.
“As private tech and service providers begin to lead in Earth intelligence, they have the chance to offer data, models, and applications to companies that lack the means to analyze data independently,” Ray noted.
This shift towards Earth intelligence is set to create new markets and opportunities for data, models, standalone tools, and applications, representing a significant business prospect for technology product and service providers.
