New Delhi, Dec 19 (NationPress) In an effort to foster entrepreneurship among Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) owned by Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe individuals, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) is executing the National Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Hub (NSSH) Scheme. This initiative aims to fulfill the mandated 4 percent procurement from SC/ST MSEs as outlined in the Public Procurement Policy, as announced by the government on Friday.
The scheme encompasses various initiatives designed to provide robust support, including capacity building programs, market linkage programs, organization of Special Vendor Development programs, awareness workshops, subsidies for purchasing machinery and equipment, financial assistance for registration under the Single Point Registration Scheme, and enrollment on government-backed e-commerce platforms, among others.
Through the Special Marketing Assistance Scheme (SMAS) component of the NSSH Scheme, SC/ST entrepreneurs are offered opportunities to participate in both domestic and international exhibitions, enhancing their capacities to engage in public procurement. Over the past five years, 3,929 SC/ST entrepreneurs received assistance for participation in domestic exhibitions, costing Rs. 36.41 crore, as noted by Minister of State for MSME, Shobha Karandlaje, in a written statement in Lok Sabha.
To raise awareness about the myriad benefits provided by the NSSH Scheme, Conclaves, Special Vendor Development Programs (SVDPs), and awareness workshops are being held across various regions of the country.
The scheme also leverages social media platforms for expansive outreach, specifically targeting the intended audience, the minister added.
Meanwhile, MSMEs have exported goods worth Rs. 9,52,023.35 crore in the current fiscal year (up to September).
Karandlaje mentioned that the export figures are derived from MSME-related products identified through the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics portal. The government observed a strong momentum in India's export performance during this timeframe, particularly in high-value and technology-driven sectors such as electronic goods, pharmaceuticals, and engineering products, where MSMEs contribute significantly.
