Seoul, April 20 (NationPress) Hyundai Motor, the leading automaker from South Korea, announced on Sunday that it has achieved sales of over 500,000 units for the Palisade sport utility vehicle (SUV) in the United States, as car manufacturers strive to adapt to the ongoing global trade challenges.

The total sales of the Palisade in the U.S. reached 506,425 units by the end of last month, as reported in Hyundai's sales figures.

Hyundai Motor introduced the first-generation Palisade SUV to the U.S. market six years ago in 2019, with the second-generation version expected to launch later this year, according to news agency Yonhap.

In 2024, approximately two-thirds of the Palisade's global sales, totaling 165,745 units, originated from the U.S. market.

Identifying the U.S. as the “most competitive SUV market”, Hyundai plans to enhance its sales strategy with a varied SUV lineup that includes the Tucson, Santa Fe, and Palisade models.

Out of 4.02 million vehicles sold in the U.S. from January to March, a substantial 3.12 million units, or 78 percent, were SUVs and other multipurpose vehicles, according to automotive sales data provider MarkLines.

The second-generation Palisade SUV is set to hit the market in the second half of the year, following its domestic launch in January.

The new Palisade features either a 3.5-liter gasoline engine or a 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline hybrid engine tailored for the U.S. market.

Hyundai intends to introduce a Palisade variant equipped with a gasoline hybrid engine, as well as the Palisade XRT Pro model designed for off-road enthusiasts for U.S. customers in the latter half of the year.

In Korea, models featuring a 2.5-liter turbo gasoline engine or a 2.5-liter turbo gasoline hybrid engine have already been launched.

During its CEO Investor Day in August, Hyundai declared plans to increase its gasoline hybrid models to 14 by 2030 and expand its electric vehicle lineup to 21 from six in the same timeframe.

The company also targets the sale of 2 million all-electric vehicles globally by 2030, despite experiencing a temporary slowdown in EV production.

However, this year has seen a significant rise in market uncertainties following U.S. President Donald Trump's recent implementation of 25 percent tariffs on imported vehicles.

In the January-March timeframe, Hyundai’s vehicle sales in the U.S. surged 10.1 percent year-on-year to 203,554 units, largely aided by the popularity of SUV models.
