How is IEW 2026 Highlighting Growth in Ethanol Blending and CBG Under PM Modi’s Vision?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 26 (NationPress) Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is experiencing a significant shift in its energy landscape, focusing intently on bio-energy, ethanol blending, and circular economy strategies, stated Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday.
This vision is prominently displayed at the India Energy Week (IEW) 2026, according to Puri.
During his address at IEW 2026, Puri emphasized that India has achieved notable advancements in bio-fuels and waste-to-energy projects over recent years.
"Under PM Modi's leadership, IEW 2026 emphasizes increased bio-fuel blending, stronger integration of CBG with CGD, and progress towards a circular energy economy," Puri remarked.
He pointed out that the event signifies the government’s dedication to cleaner, greener, and more sustainable energy solutions while also enhancing energy security.
"The Bio-Energy, Ethanol, and CBG Zone organized by Indian Oil Corporation has become a key highlight of the event," he noted.
"Waste-to-energy innovations have taken center stage, showcasing how agricultural residues, organic waste, and other by-products are converted into valuable energy resources," he added.
Puri observed that ethanol blending in petrol has risen dramatically from just 1.53% to 20%, marking a pivotal achievement for India.
This transition has not only diminished reliance on fossil fuel imports but has also created additional earning prospects for farmers and invigorated the rural economy.
He also mentioned that the country currently has 133 Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) facilities, generating approximately 926 tonnes of CBG daily.
The enhanced integration of CBG with City Gas Distribution (CGD) systems is facilitating the promotion of cleaner cooking and transportation fuels in both urban and rural settings.
Puri asserted that IEW 2026 clearly illustrates India's transition toward a circular energy framework, where waste is viewed as a resource instead of a liability.
He emphasized that such initiatives are vital for realizing India’s climate objectives while ensuring inclusive and sustainable development.
India Energy Week 2026 is scheduled from January 27 to 30 at ONGC’s Advanced Training Institute (ATI) in Goa, uniting policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to shape the future of the country's energy sector.
