New Delhi, Jan 28 (NationPress) The India–European Union Free Trade Agreement is poised to greatly enhance the competitive edge of Indian exporters within European markets, allowing them to effectively challenge competitors such as Vietnam, Bangladesh, Thailand, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka, according to industry experts.
In an interview with IANS, Himanshu Baid, Managing Director and CEO of Polymedicure, described the India–EU FTA as a significant milestone for the nation, as it unlocks the vast market of 27 European countries for Indian exporters.
“This agreement will empower Indian firms in Europe, enabling them to better compete with other export-driven Asian nations,” he remarked.
Baid further emphasized that the trade agreement will facilitate improved market access for Indian enterprises and bolster export volumes.
“The pact will facilitate seamless access to advanced European technologies, while European businesses will gain from entering India’s rapidly expanding domestic market,” he stated.
“The FTA is anticipated to stimulate manufacturing growth in India and draw in greater investment levels,” he continued.
R.S. Kanwar, Chairman of the Medical Devices Export Promotion Council (EPCMD), echoed these sentiments in a conversation with IANS, stating that the India–EU trade agreement is profoundly advantageous and has the potential to transform the pharmaceutical and medical devices sectors.
Kanwar highlighted that the FTA represents a positive advancement for India’s medical devices industry, pointing out that better access to life-saving medical products will be mutually advantageous for both India and the European Union.
He applauded the shift towards zero-duty access for medical devices but underscored the importance of addressing non-tariff barriers to allow Indian manufacturers to fully leverage the European market.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in announcing the India–EU FTA, stated that this agreement transcends mere trade; it constitutes a new framework for mutual prosperity.
“This historic pact will facilitate easier access for Indian farmers and small businesses to European markets, generating new opportunities in manufacturing and further enhancing cooperation in services between India and the European Union,” he told IANS.
