New Delhi, Jan 21 (NationPress) A total of 201 Indian entrepreneurs aged between 36 and 40 have been recognized among 505 young global business leaders who are centimillionaires, surpassing both China and the UK, according to a report released on Wednesday.
Bengaluru emerged as the frontrunner in India, with 48 entrepreneurs making the list, solidifying its status as the “U40 capital of India”, as stated in the report from Avendus Wealth Management and Hurun India.
The report highlighted that among the 505 entrepreneurs under 40 years of age, 201 hailed from India, compared to 194 from China and 110 from the UK.
To be included, individuals must be aged 36-40 years and have a business valuation of at least $100 million for first-generation entrepreneurs and $200 million for those from second-generation backgrounds and beyond.
According to the report, 83 percent of Indian entrepreneurs listed are first-generation founders, showcasing India’s burgeoning entrepreneurial spirit and leadership.
Among Indian educational institutions, IIT Kharagpur topped the list with 15 alumni, followed closely by IIT Delhi and IIT Madras, each with 10.
The software products and services sector dominated the list with 40 entrepreneurs, followed by healthcare (18), transportation and logistics (16), and financial services (15).
In total, the U40 entrepreneurs employ over 443,000 professionals and oversee businesses valued at $357 billion, accounting for nearly one-eleventh of India's GDP.
“The contribution to GDP and employment highlights the economic impact already made by this generation,” commented Apurva Sahijwani, MD & CEO of Avendus Wealth Management.
For first-generation entrepreneurs, the UK led with 92 percent, followed by India at 83 percent and China at 72 percent.
In terms of gender representation, China led with 29 women, while India followed with 15. The headquarters of these enterprises reflect each nation's innovation hubs: Bengaluru in India, Shanghai in China, and London in the UK. In India and China, software products and services dominate, while financial services are prominent in the UK, as noted in the report.
