Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 31 (NationPress) - The Department of Posts has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Small Industries Development Bank of India to authenticate informal micro enterprises registered on the Udyam Assist Platform, as announced by the Ministry of Communications on Wednesday.
This agreement aims to execute Contact Point Verification of informal micro enterprises, ensuring the correctness and trustworthiness of their business details.
The MoU was signed by Manisha Bansal Badal, General Manager for Citizen Centric Services and Rural Business at the Department of Posts, and Amit Nagar, Deputy General Manager at SIDBI.
Through this partnership, India Post will leverage its extensive network of over 1.64 lakh post offices and its trained field personnel to perform on-ground verification of enterprises listed on the Udyam Assist Platform.
The verification will involve checking business details, locations, and other crucial information, all supported by geo-tagged evidence.
SIDBI, which oversees the management of the Udyam Assist Platform, stated that this initiative will enhance data quality and facilitate easier access for small informal businesses to formal credit.
“The platform is designed to integrate informal micro enterprises into the formal system through comprehensive data validation and verification,” the ministry highlighted.
To aid this process, SIDBI has created a dedicated mobile application for real-time data collection and secure uploading of geo-tagged photographs.
Additionally, SIDBI will provide the essential technical infrastructure, guidelines, and training to ensure that the verification process is executed smoothly and uniformly nationwide.
This MoU will remain effective for a duration of two years, from December 31, 2025, to December 30, 2027, and may be extended through mutual agreement.
The agreement also includes provisions concerning data security, confidentiality, GST compliance, and structured payment systems.
The ministry emphasized that this collaboration underscores the increasing role of India Post in supporting national priorities like MSME development, financial inclusion, and the formalization of the informal economy, which enables small businesses to achieve improved access to institutional finance.
